Backyard Lean-To Pole Barn & Storage Area - Spanish Fort, AL (Baldwin County)
In July 2024, Sovine Construction completed this custom backyard transformation in Spanish Fort, Alabama (Baldwin County). The client wanted to enhance their outdoor space by replacing an existing shed with a versatile storage and hangout area. After discussing their vision, we designed and built a lean-to style pole barn that would serve as both a functional storage space and an inviting entertainment area.
Project Breakdown
To begin, we removed the existing shed and constructed a lean-to style pole barn with metal trusses for durability and strength. Since the property was on a slope, we poured a new concrete slab with proper drainage to ensure long-term stability. Once the concrete cured, we built a storage area at the back of the structure, enclosing it with Hardie board and batten siding. The siding was then painted in a sleek black Sherwin-Williams color, chosen by the client to complement their outdoor aesthetic.
For the hangout and picnic area, we constructed multiple partition walls covered with 5/4 boards, creating a sense of privacy while maintaining an open, inviting space. As the project progressed, the client requested matching partitions to enclose their pool pumps and equipment, seamlessly integrating them with the new structure for a cohesive look.
To enhance functionality, we built a long built-in bench that doubles as a seating area and hidden storage, with opening lids for easy access. Additionally, we created a designated space for a mini fridge and the client’s pizza oven, making the area perfect for hosting family and friends.
Electrical & Finishing Touches
We ran power to the structure, adding:
Four outlets (including one in the storage area for miscellaneous use).
Two outlets in the entertainment area (for a television and mini fridge).
A ceiling fan with lighting, ensuring comfort during warm Alabama days.
A Unique Blend of Rustic & Modern Design
This project was a unique and exciting challenge, as we haven’t seen many similar structures in the area. The blend of rustic elements with modern finishes created a functional and stylish outdoor retreat, giving the homeowners a versatile space for both storage and entertaining. We thoroughly enjoyed bringing this vision to life and delivering a one-of-a-kind backyard upgrade for our client.
